Track Your Citizenship Application

From sending your package to taking the oath, here are the official steps of a Canadian citizenship application. Check off the ones you have reached and note your dates to stay on track.

  1. 1.Application submitted

    You mailed or uploaded your complete application package to IRCC.

  2. 2.Acknowledgement of Receipt (AOR)

    IRCC confirms it received your application. The processing clock starts here.

  3. 3.Test invitation

    You receive the date, time and format of your citizenship test.

  4. 4.Citizenship test

    You take the 20-question test. Passing score: 15 out of 20.

  5. 5.Interview (if required)

    An officer checks your identity and documents. It sometimes happens on test day.

  6. 6.Decision made

    IRCC approves your citizenship application after final checks.

  7. 7.Ceremony invitation

    You receive the date of your citizenship ceremony, in person or online.

  8. 8.Oath and ceremony

    You take the oath, receive your certificate and become a Canadian citizen.

IRCC's service standard for citizenship is about 12 months from the acknowledgement of receipt to the ceremony. Real timelines vary.
